On 3–4 November 2021, I participated as an invited speaker and panelist at BraveTalk: Against Armed Violence in Sweden, organised by Piku in Malmö. The conference brought together representatives from research, law enforcement, politics and civil society to discuss developments in firearm violence and possible responses. Sweden’s Minister for Home Affairs, Mikael Damberg, was also among the speakers.
On 3 November, I delivered a presentation titled “Shootings, Explosions and Future Challenges”, discussing the rise in firearm violence in Sweden, its underlying factors and consequences for society and national security. Among the questions I raised were the development of criminal networks, the availability of illegal firearms and shortcomings in integration policy.
The following day I joined the panel discussion “Strategies Against Firearm Violence – What Is Being Done Internationally? What Can Be Done in Sweden?” alongside James Densley, Erik Nord, Juliana Buzi and Søren Have Enevoldsen. The discussion addressed international experiences and possible strategies to counter firearm violence in Sweden.
