On 28 September 2026, I participated as a panelist at a conference on the Lion and Sun Revolution and the Iran Prosperity Project (IPP), held at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The conference brought together European policymakers, researchers and Iranian experts to discuss developments in Iran, the prospects for political transition and the implications for Europe. The programme included invited speakers and two panel discussions.
I participated in the panel “From the Streets to the Chessboard – Security, Geopolitics, and Europe’s Stake in a Free Iran,” moderated by Dr. Hadi Mirgolbabaee.
My fellow panelists were Dr. Babak Rezaee Daryakenari, Associate Professor of International Relations at Leiden University in the Netherlands, and Tomáš Zdechovský, a Czech Member of the European Parliament representing the European People's Party (EPP).
During the discussion, I focused on the intelligence and security threats posed by the Islamic Republic to European countries, including Iranian intelligence operations, transnational repression and the use of criminal networks to conduct operations abroad.
The panel also addressed the broader geopolitical implications of developments in Iran and Europe's interests in the country's future.
